Alum Marvin, Boddie among those who return.

Undaunted by a late summer drizzle, a full field of golfers played their way through a tough Rolling Hills 18 holes at the sixth annual Semancik Bremerton Alumni Golf Tournament last weekend.

An ever-increasing slate of 114 alumni donors and community sponsors helped make this year’s tournament the best ever, 5th Quarter Awards Banquet MC and Semancik Foundation President Lane Dowell said.

“You are special because you believe in and help all of Bremerton’s kids,” Dowell said as he addressed the luncheon crowd.

All monies beyond expenses are invested in the Semancik Foundation scholarship fund which is used to help Bremerton High students further their post prep education.

“What you guys are doing for Bremerton kids is really neat,” said Dwight Proteau, 1984 BHS Class President. “We want to donate more.”

The tournament, which Rolling Hills club pro Tedd Hudanich called the most popular and fastest growing of its type in the Kitsap area, challenged golfers with the normal contests: longest drive, closest to the pin, prizes for hole-in-ones as well as the Pepsi/Silver City Brewery hole, the Outback Steakhouse challenge, the Tiger Woods long drive and more.

The guest speaker was former Semancik running back and Denver Bronco Super Bowl captain Tony Boddie who delighted the room with tales of his former Hall of Fame prep coach. Bremerton’s Marvin Williams was in the house to present an autographed basketball to Carolyn Colvin Wilson, who won the ball via the silent auction.

An added feature to shed light on the purpose of the foundation was the presentation of the first Al Colvin Continuing Education Student Scholarship to Maria Aragon (BHS 2005), currently enrolled at Central Washington University, presented by Hazel Colvin.
