BREMERTON — Sounders FC U23 play the Kitsap Pumas at Bremerton’s Gordon Field July 15 with the game having some extra incentive for both teams.
The Sounders U23 (7-3-1, 22 pts) are tied with the Portland Timbers U-23s (6-2-4, 22 pts), with Portland holding the tiebreaker between the two clubs in the PDL’s Northwest Division.
If the Sounders U23 win or draw against Kitsap, the Sounders U23 would take second place in the Northwest Division and host the Portland Timbers U23 July 19 in a divisional playoff game. If the Sounders U23 are unable to gain points from the game at Kitsap, Portland would host this weekend’s playoff contest.
The July 15 game also offers the opportunity for a cup final as the Pumas lead the Ruffneck Cup standings with 15 points, followed close behind by the Sounders U23 with 12 points. Ruffneck Scarves is an official partner for the Sounders U23 and continue to support local soccer with the Ruffneck Cup.
The Pumas have already wrapped up the Northwest Division title and have a chance at the PDL’s regular season title as one of only two remaining undefeated sides in the league this season. The Pumas are 9-0-2 and looked poised to make another run at the PDL Championship Game. Michael Chamberlain and Logan Miller lead the Pumas’ attack with five goals each, while Mike Ramos follows close behind with three goals on the campaign. Cory Keitz has led the Pumas from the back once again, and Matt Grosey has had another great year in goal.
The Sounders U23 have been led this season by Guillermo Delgado, who has five goals. He’s followed by Florian Valot and David Olsen with three goals apiece. Jonathan Campbell and Matt Reinikka lead a back line that has given up less than a goal a game on the season.
With playoff seeding on the line for the Sounders U23, and a potential regular-season title at stake for the Pumas, both teams will be looking for a win July 15. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
