• Overview: This rivalry has meant little beyond bragging rights the last couple of seasons as South struggled in 2010, while CK was mediocre last season. But it is different this year as both teams are playing for second place in 4A Narrows, with the winner claiming a much easier playoff path. The loser likely will be forced to travel to undefeated Camas for the state play-in game. The Cougars’ spread offense, led by Zawadzki, gains most of the attention, but the defense has yielded just 14.3 points per game. With the exception of league champion Bellarmine Prep, no team has scored more than 17 points against CK. The Cougars’ offense might be just as potent. In addition to Zawadzki, who is CK’s big-play threat, the Cougars also feature talent at wide receiver in Cleveland and Parker. LaFontaine has missed the last two weeks because of injury, but junior Riley Paschal has been a capable replacement. No team has won a road game in the series since 2005, when the Wolves won 49-42 at Central Kitsap. South has a commanding lead in the series, but most of that was based on their dominance of Central in the early years of both programs. The Wolves have a 23-22 edge since 1949 along with a tie in ’68.
