South Kitsap’s chances to reach the postseason took a big hit Friday night when the Wolves lost 59-47 at Gig Harbor.
The teams came in tied for fourth-place in the 4A Narrows League. The Wolves (5-7 league, 9-9 overall) had won 71-55 at home in their first matchup Jan. 11, but on Friday the Tides’ front-line duo of Cyrus Ward and Jared Anderson were too much for South.
Ward scored 25 points and Anderson finished with 18.
Gig Harbor (6-6, 9-8) led 15-7 after one quarter, but the Wolves, led by Ryan Callaghan’s 14 points and 12 from Nars Martinez, fought back to trail 26-23 at halftime.
With two games left in the regular season, if the Wolves win both their games and Gig Harbor loses once, the team’s will meet again in a playoff for the league’s fourth postseason spot.
The Tides play at third-place Central Kitsap on Monday night, while South plays at Shelton. The regular season concludes Wednesday with South at home to take on Mount Tahoma while Gig Harbor plays at Stadium.
