May the 4th be with Bainbridge as the Spartans beat North Thurston 6-0 and will head into the second round of the district tournament in 3A soccer.
Finn Reynolds scored two goals, and Howard Howlett, Christopher Fowler, Vinny Self and Magnus Hauge each scored a goal in the win.
he Spartans will travel to Harry Lang Stadium May 7 at 7 p.m. in Lakewood to face Mountain View.
Bainbridge won a play-in game May 2 against Bonney Lake 3-1 to qualify for the tourney.
Because 3A BHS is in the 2A Olympic League it has to play play-in games to advance to the postseason.
The Spartans struck within the game’s first few minutes with a free kick. Howard Howlett IV’s first shot deflected back to his feet where he fired again to score the goal.
Bonney Lake tied the game a few minutes later on a free kick that was headed in front of Spartan goalie Cooper Harrington.
Bonney Lake looked to take the lead but another header sailed wide. Instead, Finn McCallum scored on the counterattack to end the first half.
In the second half, both teams struggled to shoot on net. Bonney Lake fired first but the shot was saved by Harrington.
Bainbridge’s Vinny Self responded by juking a couple of defenders and shooting at the goalie. Once Bonney Lake’s goalie deflected the shot, Finn Reynolds rebounded it, and fired it in for the third goal.
Afterward, Bainbridge began to play defensively to secure the win.
Bainbridge qualified for the 13th seed in the district tournament.
