Kingston’s fastpitch team defeated Bainbridge 12-0 in five innings to pick up its sixth win of the season March 28.

Jayla Moon threw a complete game on the mound and knocked in three runs at the plate. On the mound, she gave up one hit, three walks and had 10 strikeouts. “I was trying to stay zoned in and get this win,” Moon said. “We came off a loss, and everyone was down and wanted to go hit too.”

Kingston’s bats were alive early against Spartan pitcher Sofia Peato. The Bucs scored nine of its runs in the first inning. “Our hitting lineup is really good, and everyone is doing their job,” Moon said. “Everyone isn’t always given the sign to hit, but they are up to their job.”

The Kingston lineup almost all batted twice in the first inning. Besides Moon’s three RBIs, Audrey Rienstra picked up an RBI after grounding out, and a few more runs scored when Tegan Stanford reached second on an error.

Once Kingston scored nine runs, Bainbridge decided to let freshman Rollins Anderson pitch. She held one of the top offenses in the league to three runs, two earned, in the final four innings. “I came in with a better energy and mindset,” Anderson said. “Once you get in the mindset, you get on a roll. I had a good defense today, too.”

Anderson got her first three outs, striking out one and catching two fly balls. “I feel like I can perform once I get out,” she said. “That’s my momentum. I build once I start. Once I started, I kept rolling.”

Although Anderson gave up a couple of doubles to Stanford and Kierra Chaussee, she and the Spartans showed signs of improvement since earlier this season. “We were at practices and games, and we were not doing well,” Anderson said. “With the reps, we will get so much better in a few years since we have a bunch of freshmen.”
