lead Wolves to win
South Kitsap girls basketball team improved to 2-0 Monday with a 46-37 nonleague win against North Kitsap.
The Wolves led just 21-20 at halftime, but moved ahead in the second half as senior Tori Fairweather scored a game-high 14 points.
Forward Stephanie Osterdahl also added 13 points for South.

SK fastpitch star signs
with UNC Greensboro
UNC Greensboro announced Tuesday that it signed three fastpitch players, including South Kitsap infielder Ally Johnson.
A three-year varsity member at South, Johnson owns a .480 career batting average.
The North Carolina-based school also signed catcher Chelsea D’Ambrosio from Houston and Heather Robb from Apex, N.C.
“I am very excited about our 2009 recruiting and feel that it is a true privilege to welcome Chelsea, Ally and Heather and their families into the Spartan Softball program,” UNC Greensboro coach Jennifer Herzig said in a release.
Atwater shines in
win for George Fox
South Kitsap graduate Evan Atwater scored 21 points to help lead George Fox to a 78-76 win against Northwest Christian University in a nonconference game Tuesday at the Wheeler Sports Center’s Miller Gym in Newberg, Ore.
Atwater connected on a trio of 3-pointers during the game as the Bruins improved to 2-4.
Umpires wanted
for spring sports
Peninsula Umpires is searching for people to work this spring.
Training to work games at high schools begins in early January.
Men and women are sought to umpire baseball, fastpitch and slowpitch softball in Kitsap and Mason counties.
The training is a free, comprehensive program with certification available. Check http://peninsulaumpires.org for the complete schedule.
Peninsula Umpires officiate games from youth through college.
All members must pass a Washington State Patrol background check.
Umpires are paid for every game worked in addition to a travel fee.
