Willie Bloomquist, a 1996 South Kitsap graduate, was released July 6 by the Seattle Mariners.
Bloomquist hit .159 in 69 at-bats this season.
During his 14-season major-league career, Bloomquist had a .269 batting average and hit 18 home runs.
Perhaps his biggest asset was his versatility as Bloomquist played every position with the exception of catcher and pitcher during his career.
The 37-year-old Bloomquist expressed a desire to continue his professional career.
“For me honestly, it’s a mixture of emotions,” Bloomquist told MLB.com’s Greg Johns. “I’m doing great. I’m not disappointed or mad at anyone. I’ve been around this game long enough to understand the business side. Sometimes moves have to happen. I get it.
“I hate leaving Seattle because I love Seattle. But I’m not going out like this. That’s not going to happen. I’ve worked too hard and I certainly hope to get another shot.”

Tennessee Tech finished with a 26-29 record last season.
