Panthers top Klahowya
The Poulsbo Middle School girls basketball team beat Klahowya 48-43 Monday.
The Panthers were led by strong second half scoring and defense on the parts of Payton Harvey, Leah Baugh and Mary Jones, who each finished with 10 points. Poulsbo traveled to Bainbridge Island to face Woodward Thursday, but results were not available at press time.
The Panthers will host McMurray Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
KMS defeats Woodward
The Kingston Middle School girls basketball team improved to 3-0 by beating Woodward (Bainbridge Island) 44-38 Feb. 19.
Amanda Carper led the Cavaliers with 22 points, seven steals and five rebounds.
Kingston faced Mountainview Thursday, but results were not available at press time. They will travel to Klahowya Monday for a 3:30 p.m. game.
KHS winter sports awards
Kingston High School will recognize the accomplishments of its winter sports teams at the annual Winter Sports Awards Ceremony Thursday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in the KHS commons.
There is no cost to attend, and KHS Athletic Boosters will provide dessert and refreshments before and after the ceremony.
NK Soccer Club Spring Academy
Soccer players of all abilities and ages, from kindergarten to high school, are encouraged to register for the North Kitsap Soccer Club Spring Academy.
The six week program begins the week of April 6 and includes one quality training session per week, with “shuffle” games on Saturdays. The cost is $65 per player. Space is limited, so register now at www.northkitsapsoccer.org.
NK gymnasts place seventh at state
The North Kitsap High School gymnastics team went to the state tournament this year for the first time, and finished in seventh place.
The team put up a score of 154.200, about one point below their goal for the competition.
“The girls did a great job,” said coach Kris Goodfellow. “I am very pleased with our team score and the way they competed.”
Junior Melissa Kunold was the only Kitsap gymnast to qualify for the finals as an individual, and finished ninth on beam, with a 9.2.
Vancouver’s Columbia River won the state title, scoring 169.150.
NK pool offers swim lessons
Open registration for March swim lessons at the North Kitsap Community Pool begins today at 8 a.m. for all classes.
Preschool and kindergarten classes run weekdays between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Evening lessons are available at 5, 5:30 and 6 p.m. with classes running Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Saturday classes are also available.
