Senior has little difficulty defending her Class 4A Narrows League tennis singles title

South Kitsap senior Kailyn Skjonsby easily defended her Class 4A Narrows League girls singles tennis title with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Veena Iyengar of Bellarmine Prep during last week’s league championships at Capital City Tennis Club in Tumwater.

Skjonsby advances to compete in the May 17-18 West Central District championships at Capital City Tennis Club.

Other Wolves who participated in the league tournament included Emily Wilkins in singles and McKenzie Henry and Akari Yamashita and Sam Barrow and Heather Sicotte in doubles.

Scott named South Kitsap’s volleyball coach

South Kitsap athletic director Ed Santos announced last week that C.J. Scott, who teaches physical education at Sidney Glen Elementary School, has been hired as the school’s volleyball coach.

Scott previously coached the Wolves’ boys swim team. He replaces Jessica Olsen, who resigned after nine seasons at South. The Wolves finished with an 8-8 overall record and were 5-7 in 4A Narrows last season.

“He’s a very accomplished volleyball player,” Santos said. “We’re excited about him.”
