Both South Kitsap competitors recorded personal-best times during Saturday’s Class 4A state cross-country championships at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Senior Mason Villarma finished the boys race in 49th place in 16 minutes, 22.74 seconds, while sophomore Eva Knowles was 62nd in 19:44.68 on the girls side.

The boys race had 147 competitors, while the girls featured 140 athletes. Both were 3.1 miles.

Wolves lose season finale against Shelton

South Kitsap’s football team closed out its season with a 35-26 loss Friday at Shelton in a Narrows League crossover game.

The Wolves (3-7) tied matched their 2010 team for the fewest wins in a season since they finished 1-7 in 1977.

South lost five of its final six games.

No details from the Wolves’ final contest were reported.
