South Kitsap is headed back to the Class 4A state baseball tournament after a one-year absence.

The Wolves accomplished that with a 4-2 win Tuesday against second-ranked Tahoma (18-2) in the 4A West Central/Southwest district baseball tournament at Russell Road in Kent.

Sophomore left-hander Kellen Traxel threw a complete game and allowed just five hits. He struck out eight and walked three batters.

Junior catcher Alex Sablan had three RBI for South (13-4), while a first-inning home run by classmate Mike Nelson gave the Wolves their other run.

South advances to the tournament semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday against Kentwood (16-6) at Kent Memorial. They can earn no worse than the fourth seed out of districts into state, which begins May 21.

SOUTH KITSAP CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH WINSouth Kitsap’s boys and girls track and field teams dominated Central Kitsap and Mount Tahoma on Friday to end the regular season.

The Wolves’ girls team finished with 123 points to 47 for Central Kitsap and two for Mount Tahoma.

First-place finishers included Amanda Wilson (200), Amanda Boe (400), Molly Wheeler in the 1,600, Jessica Peterson (3,200), Sarah Lacey (100 hurdles and 300 hurdles), Chelsi Swanson (triple jump). First-place finishers in field events included Kelsie Forcier (shot put and discus) and Shelby Jackson (javelin).

On the boys side, Dominic Boddie won the 100, while Javier Scott (200) and the 400 relay team also placing first. In field events, Isaiah Davis (long and high jumps), Terrill Wilson (pole vault) and Josh Biagtan (triple jump) also placed first.

The Narrows League Championships began Wednesday and conclude today at South.
