The third annual “Sports-guard Day” hosted by Naumann Johnson Orthodontics (NJO) is Friday.
Doctors have donated custom-made mouth guards for local athletes and orthodontic assistants will be on hand to take dental impressions. After an impression is made, the mouth pieces will be delivered to the student’s school or available for pick up at the Naumann Johnson offices in Silverdale or Port Orchard.
“Many sports injuries can be prevented by wearing appropriate protective gear,” NJO spokeswoman Mary McFadden said. “Not only do mouth guards save teeth and protect jaws from breaks … mouth guards may also protect against neck injuries and central nervous system injuries by decreasing the force transmitted through the jaw to the base of the skull.”
Mouth guards provided on Sport-guard Day ($97 value) are complimentary. And unlike over-the-counter “boil and bite” mouth guards, McFadden said the mouth guards made by NJO are custom-formed to fit each individual and customized by adding the individual’s name and school logo.
Impressions will be made from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at both offices. The Port Orchard office is located at 1565 Woodridge Dr., Suite B and the Silverdale branch is located at 3511 NW Bucklin Hill Road.
