Training begins in January. All scheduled meetings and key dates are available at http://peninsulaumpires.org. Interested individuals are encouraged to e-mail recruitinfo@peninsulaumpires.org or call Bob Theal at (360) 620-8779.

Indoor lacrosse

Winter indoor lacrosse sessions, hosted by the Kitsap Youth Lacrosse Association, began Dec. 6 at the Olympic Soccer & Sports Center at Pendergast Park in Bremerton.

There are youth sessions for boys in grades three through eight as well as for players in high school and up. These are pickup sessions, costing $10 each. For a registration and waiver form, visit www.kitsaplacrosse.com.

Participants are encouraged to either mail the form to KYLA or bring it to their first session along with the $10 registration fee.

Sessions are refereed and the emphasis is on stick work. Dangerous play is not tolerated.

Registration for the Spring 2010 Boys Youth Lacrosse season also is open. Those wishing to learn and play boys youth lacrosse (grades three-eight) must sign up now. Registration forms are available on the Web. The registration fee is $150 before Dec. 31 and $175 beginning Jan. 1.

For additional information, contact KYLA at (360) 824-7115.

Kitsap Pumas

The Kitsap Soccer Club is hosting open tryouts for prospective professional players Feb. 13 and 14 at Gordon Field at the Fairgrounds.

The non-refundable registration fee is $50. Prospects are encouraged to pre-register via the club Web site — www.kitsapsoccerclub.com — prior to Feb. 5 because demand is high. Pre-payment options have yet to be announced.

The club also recently launched a “Scarf Kitsap — and Beyond!!!” contest. The fan who sends in the most creative photo, incorporating an official Kitsap Pumas club scarf, receives four complimentary tickets to the 2010 regular-season home opener.

Fans must post their entries to the team’s official Facebook page by April 22. Pumas players, coaches and staff will determine a winner.

Additionally, a holiday ticket package was announced Wednesday. The package includes four tickets to the Pumas’ 2010 home opener, four team caps and four team scarves. The package costs $75, the offer running until Dec. 31.

For additional information, contact club headquarters at (360) 377-6008.
