Cross country
Central Kitsap senior Shane Moskowitz will run cross country at Oklahoma State University next fall. Moskowitz, a defending Class 4A state track and field champion in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races, joins an OSU team that currently is ranked No. 2 in nation behind Oregon, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. He also is a favorite to win a state cross county title this season, after finishing second in 2008. OSU is located in Stillwater, Okla.
Kitsap Pumas
Without a coach and in the midst of the offseason, the Kitsap Pumas managed to upset the Portland Timbers of the United Soccer Leagues First Division 1-0 at PGE Park in Portland on Wednesday. Alex Megson scored in the 12th minute to give the Pumas the lone score of the game. Goalkeeper Dustyn Brimm did the rest, registering “eight outstanding saves.”
“It’s a shame there (were) no international scouts here today,” said James Ritchie, who is filling in at coach while the club seeks a replacement for the departed John Wedge. “I believe he is the best ‘keeper in America.”

ISPN Sports
The ISPN Sports Game of the Week is today’s matchup between Central Kitsap and Lincoln at Silverdale Stadium. The game begins at 7 p.m.

Military rugby
There are two major upcoming events for the military rugby players of Naval Base Kitsap.
The All-Navy rugby team is looking for applications for the Armed Forces Sports Council team. The Kitsap military rugby community has supported the All-Navy team for many years — the 2000 All-Navy team had 12 players who, at one time, played for the Bangor Renegades.

The eighth annual Army-Navy rugby game is Nov. 21 and Kitsap will play host. The Kitsap Rugby Football Union is actively seeking military players (Navy, Marine or Coast Guard — active duty or reservist) who would like to be on the Navy team for this event. KRFU is developing a Navy team specifically for this event and practices from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the upper softball fields on Naval Base Kitsap.
