OC’s Koets earns league honors
Olympic College freshman Josh Koets was named to the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges all-league second team last week. Koets, a former Bremerton High School basketball guard, finished his first season with the Rangers averaging 18.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He was one of two freshmen named to the all-league squad in the North division.
Crosspoint athletes earn league recognition
Crosspoint Academy’s Breyenne Mosey and Austin Hewett were selected to the All-Sea-Tac basketball teams, the league announced last week. Junior Jordan Barton earned a spot on the girls second team. Mosey and Hewett are both seniors who led the girls and boys squads this season, respectively.
OC Rangers basketball teams end seasons
The Olympic College mens and womens basketball teams wrapped up their respective seasons Saturday with losses to Whatcom Community College in Bellingham. The men lost 83-60, while the Lady Trojans dropped their final outing 77-66. Mens head coach Barry Janusch, the school’s athletic director who returned to coach the men after a nine-year hiatus, led the Rangers to a 3-13 league record, 4-19 overall this season. The Lady Rangers also ended the year 3-13 against the league, 6-18 overall.
Knights baseball moves two games
The Bremerton High School baseball team has moved its first two regular-season games due to the current legal fight between American Legion and the Bremerton School District over the field’s management.
The Knights have moved their March 14 and 18 games against Bainbridge and Sequim high schools, respectively, to the opposing teams’ home fields. The matches were originally slated as home contests for the Knights.
Bremerton Athletic Director George Duarte said Monday that the school could still host Sequim if the team’s groundskeeper can determine that the field is in good shape the week of the game.
“I’d hate to have a game without prepping for it,” Duarte added. “We’ll make sure it’s in good condition before we take the field.”
Knights head coach Rob Tomlinson said Monday that he’s not concerned about playing the two road games, but he’s anxious to get his team back to its original home field.
“We need to get to that field as soon as possible and get these guys outside,” he added. “Unfortunately, it’s in the court’s hands now.”
The Kitsap County Superior Court will hold a hearing March 18, which Duarte said could clear the way for the Knights to return to Legion Field.
Bremerton Olympian wins fifth Pac-10 title
University of California senior swimmer and Bremerton native Nathan Adrian won the Pac-10 Conference championship in the 50-yard freestyle March 3 in Long Beach, Calif. The U.S. Olympian swam to victory with a time of 19.00. Adrian, a former Bremerton High School swim standout, earned his third-straight individual conference crown in the 50 and fifth overall. Adrian also swam in the Golden Bears’ 200 free relay, which California won with a time of 1:16.62. He finished with a time of 41.75 in the 100 free Saturday to win the event for a third time. The Golden Bears swimmer set a state record in the 200 free with the Knights in 2006.
OC volleyball signs Anderson
The Olympic College volleyball program signed outside hitter Bailey Anderson, head coach Beth Donnelly announced last week. Anderson, a 5-foot-9 native of Twin Falls, Idaho, will play for the Rangers this fall. In addition, all-league outside hitter Crystal Colo, Mattie Kozloff and Chelsea Brustad will return next season.
Trojans to host baseball clinic
The Olympic High School baseball team will host its ninth annual Baseball Skills Clinic Wednesday, March 30.
The clinic is set to take place at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds Baseball Complex or Olympic High School gymnasium, depending on weather.
It will include novice to experienced boys and girls baseball players from grades kindergarten to 8. The fee is $35 and a T-shirt is guaranteed if registered by March 11.

Rangers fall to Green River
The Olympic College baseball team lost its season opener last week to Green River Community College (Auburn) 8-6. The Rangers scored five runs in the second inning, but the Gators mustered a comeback with a four-run eighth inning to seal the win. Next up for Olympic College will be Mt. Hood Community College (Portland) Saturday at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
ISPN Sports to recap Rangers
Kevin Mac will broadcast live coverage of the ISPN Sports Show at 10 a.m. to noon Saturday with highlights and interviews from the past week of high school sports on www.ispnsports.com. Mac will also feature Olympic College athletics. The show will include highlights and interviews from Rangers players and coaches. The network is scheduled to broadcast Olympic College baseball games March 12 and 13 from the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. Olympic plays Mt. Hood Community College Saturday and Thompson Rivers University Sunday at 6 p.m.
Discount Mariners tickets on sale at Olympic High
The Olympic High School baseball team will play Foss High School in a non-league game April 16 at Safeco Field in Seattle. But in order to be invited back in 2012 the team needs to sell 1,000 Seattle Mariners tickets by this summer.
The Mariners tickets are for a June 2 game against Tampa Bay. The seats are in the 300 level and are on sale for $12, $4 of that will go directly to the program. The face value price is $20. Any individual or group who purchases 25 or more tickets for the Mariners game will have their name or business shown on the large television screen during the Rays’ game in June.
Olympic Athletic Director and head baseball coach Nate Andrews said that the players are thrilled about playing in a major league ballpark this spring. The game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Olympic is the lone Class 2A school selected for the High School Classic, which features 12 teams from Washington state. Foss is a 3A school. Unlike Olympic, the spring game won’t be Foss’ first at Safeco. The Falcons beat Nathan Hale High School 6-2 last year. All-Star game returns to Bremerton
Sports Beyond will host the ninth annual West Sound Senior All-Star basketball game for boys and girls teams March 23. The event will be hosted at the Bremer Center on the Olympic College campus in Bremerton.
Teams play two 20-minute halves at the all-star gala. There will also be a three-point shooting contest, “hot-shot” competition and dunk exhibition.
The girls start at 5:30 p.m. and the boys will begin at 7:15 p.m.
In addition, there will be a program provided with players’ season stats, grade-point average and comments from head coaches.
The cost is $8 per person. Students with an ASB card are charged $5. Those under the age of 13 are admitted for free.
