SPORTS UPDATE | A busy weekend for the Wolves

Boys tennis and girls swim headed to league, football game was relocated and soccer beat the team in third place.

GIRLS SWIM:

The South Kitsap girls swim team competed at the Narrows League championships Oct. 23. Six of the Wolves’ 11 members finished with personal bests for the season. Naomi Green, Hailey Love, Hana Marks, Aspen Millet, Nicole Nelson and co-captain Aleya White excellent races to help South finish fifth.

Co-captain Aspen Monkhouse was missed due to illness, but will be ready for districts.

The district tournament will take place noon Oct. 30 and 31 at the Curtis Aquatic Center.

BOYS TENNIS:

Tennis season is over for the 2015 South Kitsap team. The guys played well but fell short in the pursuit of the district tournament.

South’s first and second doubles, Connor Anchick and Ben Staudenraus, both lost in their first matches, which pit them against each other in the second round. Anchick won in a 3 set marathon, ending Staudenraus’ tournament. Anchick then went on to face Stadium’s no. two singles where he lost in another three set match, thus ending his tournament as well.

Both doubles teams (Hunter Riley and Bryce Wolfe, and Jonah Sauby and Jared Watson) lost their first matches, rallied to win their second but ultimately both lost their matches to end the tournament for them.

GIRLS SOCCER:

The varsity team beat third ranked Stadium 4-0 Oct. 23. With goals scored by Mikaela Morey, Kayleanna Quichoch and Savannah Foster, the Wolves sit in fourth place in the Narrows League standings. Ashlan Burris had two assists on the night.

Their next game is against Gig Harbor at home, 7 p.m. Oct 28.

FOOTBALL:

Severe flooding in Tacoma forced South and Stadium’s matchup to be pushed to Saturday Oct. 24 at the Lincoln Bowl instead of at Stadium High School. The Wolves lost in a close game 48-40.

After several players went down with injuries, including senior quarterback Jake Taylor and running back Izaiah Davis, South Kitsap fell to Stadium for the first time in their last 26 meetings.

The Wolves face Timberline for their senior night at 7 p.m. for their last game of the season Oct. 30.
