Sports update: Rencher sets new school record, swimmers qualify for districts

North Kitsap High School swimmer Tyler Rencher set a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly Thursday, with a time of 57.96 seconds. The previous butterfly record of 58.34 seconds, set by Geoff Phoenix, stood since 1998.

North Kitsap won Thursday’s meet against Bremerton, 110-59.

Rencher and teammates Josh Despard, Ben Breakey and Troyce Musick also qualified for the district finals in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1 minute, 41.74 seconds.

The West Central District III tournament takes place Feb. 12-13 at Hazen High School in Renton.

Five Kingston swimmers qualify for districts

Five swimmers from Kingston High put up district-tournament qualifying times Thursday in a meet at Port Angeles. Port Angeles won the meet, 115-64.

Jake Kvistad qualified in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle swims, with times of 2:26.29 and 6:48.42, respectively. Kvistad’s time in the 200-yard freestyle established a new school record.

Adam Kirstein qualified for the district finals in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:31.12. Juan Chehade qualified in the 50-yard swim with a time of 26.97 seconds. Jack Murdock qualified for the tournament in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:17.80. Dylan Szerlog qualified in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:18.64.

Jason Kramberger, who has already qualified for the district tournament in the 100-yard freestyle and backstroke events, established a school record in the 500-yard freestyle. He put up a time of 6:41.61. Exact times of previous Kingston records in the 500-yard and 200-yard freestyle races had not been officially established.
