Sports update: State swimming, wrestling and gymnastics results

SWIMMING

North Kitsap High swimmers Josh Despard, Tyler Rencher, Glenn Runnels and Kyle Eggers placed 19th out of 24 in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 48.33 seconds. The swimmers set a new school record with the time. The previous record, of 1:49.75, stood since Feb. 11.

Despard also finished 20th out of 24 in the 50-yard freestyle swim with a time of 23.41 seconds.

Kingston High’s Jack Murdock placed 16th out of 16 in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:05.34.

WRESTLING

North Kitsap High’s Jake Velarde won his first two matches at the state wrestling tournament to advance to the semi-finals in the 112-pound division.

Kingston’s Freddy Rodolf lost his first match in the 215-pound division, but is still alive in the loser’s bracket after winning the next two matches.

Teammate Travis Schriner won his first match in the 189-pound class, but is still in the competition after losing his second round and winning his third match.

North Kitsap’s Josh Tucker and AJ Milyard, and Kingston’s Ivy Rodolf were each ousted after losing two of their first three matches Friday. North’s Donny Stamaris and Allan Dunlap were ousted after losing their first two matches.

GYMNASTICS

North Kitsap High School’s gymnasts competed in state championship events Friday at the Tacoma Dome. The Vikings placed eighth out of 12 in the team competition, scoring 144.125. Auburn Mountainview High placed first with 169 points.

Melissa Kunold placed 19th out of 184 in the all-around competition, 22nd out of 97 on bars, 20th out of 96 on beam, 19th out of 94 on floor and 26th out of 93 on vault.

McKenna Elves placed 27th in all-around, 28th on bars, 34th on beam, 28th on floor and 54th on vault.

Lauren Wageman placed 33rd in all-around, 36th on bars, 61st on beam, 35th on floor and 33rd on vault.

Alyssa Kjmoe placed 59th in all-around, 88th on bars, 94th on beam, 91st on floor and 86th on vault.

Emilie Poffenroth placed 85th in all-around, 89th on bars, 95th on beam and 92nd on vault.

Hope Brown placed 93rd on bars. Vronica Monell placed 95th on beam. Madisen Kellogg placed 91st on vault. Nicole Pennington placed 88th on floor. Tia Harvey placed 94th on floor.

Kingston High gymnasts Dana VanWyck and Megan Keller also competed in state championship events Friday.

VanWyck placed 50th in the all-around, 60th on bars, 72nd on beam, 81st on floor, and 66th on vault.

Keller placed 66th on bars, her only event at the meet.
