Sports updates: North tops Kingston in baseball and fastpitch

Sports updates for April 28, 2009.

FASTPITCH

North Kitsap topped Kingston 8-3 Monday on the strength of a six-run first inning. Jenneke Oostman captured the win for the Vikings. North’s Laura Haelsig led all batters, going 4-for-4.

BASEBALL

The Vikings outlasted the Bucs Monday for a 10-9 win at Kingston. Austin Abrahamson got the win for North. Andy Smith went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI to lead the Vikings. Curtis Wildung led the Bucs, going 3-for-3 with a homer.

TENNIS

Kingston fell to Sequim Monday, 5-2. Singles: Austen Turner (KHS) def. Amanda Tjemsland 6-4, 6-1. Kari Hinkins (Seq.) def. Leigh Anne Bundang 6-1, 6-3. Melissa Carlson (KHS) def. Dung Quach 6-0, 6-3. SOCCER

North blanked Port Townsend Monday, 2-0. Jon Kidder scored both goals for the Vikings and Nate May got the shutout in goal. First half: 1, NK, Jon Kidder (Evan Olson), 36th. Second half: 2, NK, Kidder, 46th.

Kingston routed Port Angeles Monday, 6-1. Port Angeles kept the game close in the first half, but the Bucs ran away with it in the second. First half: 1, KHS, Diego Portillo (Matt Hust), 15th. 2, PA, Brandon Anthony, 36th. Second half: 3, KHS, Brian Bain (Hust), 44th. 4, KHS, Chance Pruiett (Riley Anderson), 50th. 5, KHS, Portillo, 63rd. 6, KHS, Eric Ramirez (Kalen Edward), 74th. 7, KHS, Ramirez, 78th.

LACROSSE

North Kitsap fell to Port Angeles in boys lacrosse Monday, 17-4.

On the girls side, North lost to Holy Names, 12-2.
