This was the kind of win Olympic baseball coach Nate Andrews was waiting for.

The Trojans topped interdistrict and Olympic League rivals Klahowya on Monday 10-2 at KSS. The pitching of Oly starter Paul Varner was a big reason why.

“We know with Paul you’ll get a lot of strikes,” Andrews said. “He took care of business and kept them off balance.”

Oly’s bats were red-hot as well, with four Trojans crossing the plate in the fourth inning to open up the game. Chris Campbell led the way for Oly, finishing 3-4 with a double, triple, two runs and three RBI. Catcher Zach Bird was also 3-4 with a double and triple, driving one in.

“We have some good athletes,” Andrews said. “They’re young. But they can put the ball in play.”

Both teams are still without their top players, as the Eagles are missing Rusty Devitt and the Trojans are without Elliott Thorsen.
