Still perfect.
After finishing the regular season with an undefeated record, the Olympic High School girls bowling team stormed the Olympic League Tournament at All-Star Lanes & Casino in Silverdale on Friday, knocking down 450 more pins than runner-up Bremerton High School.
The Lady Trojans finished with a total pin-fall of 3,474 to Bremerton’s 3,024 behind Audrey Deutsch’s high series of 598.
With the win, Olympic became league champions and advanced to the district tournament with a record of 15-0.
“It’s been up and down. We’ve had our really great games and then we’ve also had our really bad games,” senior captain Liza Ambrose said. “I think we’ve actually grown better as team because now we know what we need to work on. In the end, the league, how we finished out, we were proud of ourselves.”
There is plenty reason to be proud.
Olympic has won 29 of its last 30 regular-season matches and is the favorite to win districts, which would put them in the state championships for the second time in as many years. The team placed second at state last year.
Coach Dave Colby said the Lady Trojans discovered in January how to play as a “team,” a revelation that has translated to success — and confidence — on the lanes.
“We are determined,” Ambrose said. “We know we’re the best team out there.”
Bremerton, meanwhile, earned a place at districts by virtue of its second-place finish.
Kirstie Williams rolled a series of 522 and Misty Braddock rolled a 521 to lead the Lady Knights, who also participated at state last season.
Olympic and Bremerton will be joined at districts by Klahowya Secondary School, which finished third with a pin-fall total of 2,986, receiving the final district bid.
The Lady Eagles, who placed sixth at state in 2009, received a series of 543 from senior Carys Bailey, the league’s top-rated bowler.
Districts are Saturday, Jan. 30 at Bowlero Lanes in Tacoma. The number of teams who will advance from districts to state has yet to be determined, Klahowya coach Loree Hippe said, but an announcement is expected to be made Monday.
