POULSBO — The North Kitsap Vikings’ gymnastics team won two meets in a row to end the regular season.
The team finished the season Feb. 1 against the Kingston Buccaneers, winning 159 to 105.8.
The win over the Bucs, followed a win over the Kingston rivals and Bainbridge Spartans Jan. 31. The Vikes won narrowly with a score of 148.7 over the Spartans’ 147. The Bucs finished third with 96.85.
The Jan. 31 meet went back and forth, noted Spartan Coach Cindy Guy.
“We were within one point on floor. We won vault and I guess we were just little under on bars,” she said.
Both the Vikes and Spartans were out captains. The Spartans had to compete without team captain Dominique D’Onofrio, who has been out since a concussion that happened during warmups for floor in the earlier meet against Holy Names. The Vikes were without senior captain Sarah Zimmerman, who was out all weekend with an injury.
The contest against the Vikes and Bucs was the regular season finale for the Spartans.
North Kitsap’s Chloe Seferos took first in all events except bars. Bainbridge’s Sara Rice scored 8.7 to Seferos’ 7.4 during the Jan. 31 meet. Seferos also tied for first in vault with Bainbridge’s Miller Shor; both gymnasts scored 8.4, Jan. 31. Seferos’ highest scoring event was floor, Feb. 1, when she earned a 9.55.
The Bucs and Vikes traveled to Mount Rainer High School for the league meet, Feb. 6. Schools competing include the Bucs, Vikes, Port Angeles Roughriders, North Thurston, and Timberline.
The district meet is Feb. 15.
