POULSBO — A victory over the Kingston Buccaneers Oct. 25 guaranteed the North Kitsap Vikings the No. 1 seed into the district tournament.

The Vikings (6-0) defeated the Bucs 37-30 at North Kitsap Stadium.

The Vikings will face the No. 4 seed from the 2A South Puget Sound League either Nov. 8 or 9. As of Oct. 30, Lakes High School was tied for fourth in the SPSL with Bonney Lake.

The Bucs play Nov. 8 or 9 against the No. 3 seed of SPSL.

The loss was the first conference loss for the Bucs (5-1).

Both north-end teams went into the Oct. 25 game 5-0, vying for the Olympic League title and top seed into Districts. The Bucs struck first.

In the first, Kingston’s Matt Shaw scored the only touchdown of that quarter from a pass from Bobby Reece.

The Vikings answered back in the second, scoring 17 to the Buc’s seven. North’s Andrew Hecker scored a field goal from 35 yards outs; Kyle North scored on a 35-yard run; and Tyler Lee scored on an 18-yard pass from Cody Blackmore.

Kingston’s Henry English scored on a 54-yard pass from Bobby Reece in the second for the Buc’s second touchdown of the game.

In the third, the Vikings were up 17-14. North’s Bryce Hacker scored on a 35-yard pass from Blackmore to add to the Vikings’ lead.

The Bucs fought back in the fourth. After the Vikings scored 13 points, the Bucs earned another 16 points. However, the clock would run down before the Bucs could tie the game up.

Though the Bucs lost out on the No. 1 seed to Districts, the Bucs could still earn a share of the league title — if the Vikings lose their last game of the season against the Olympic Trojans, and the Bucs win their last game against the Port Angeles Roughriders. Both teams play Nov. 1. The Bucs travel to PA; kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Vikings travel to Olympic; kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
