POULSBO — The North Kitsap Vikings had several athletes travel to state competition this year, and a pair of them finished among the top 10 athletes in Washington.
Jenne Jones, only a freshman, went to the Tacoma Dome Friday and Saturday in order to represent North Kitsap in gymnastics.
Jones tied for 38th in floor routine, and tied for 35th in vault.
“She did really good, considering it was her first trip to state,” said gymnastics head coach Kris Goodfellow.
Jones’ trip to state put the proper punctuation mark on a season deserving of many exclamation points. After several top scores, the Vikings sent a representative to state for the first time in years.
Goodfellow hopes it’s a new tradition — especially for Jones, who did well despite an aching knee. “It gives her an opportunity to see what she needs to work on until next season,” Goodfellow said.
Jones wasn’t the only Viking in the Tacoma Dome last weekend. Wrestlers Jarod Jennings and Jordan Andersen also made the trip, hitting the mats in the dome during the 4A wrestling Mat Classic.
Jennings finished eighth overall in the 189-lb. weight class.
In diving, Pat White, expected to be a top finisher in diving, did just that, taking seventh overall by scoring 338.5 in one-meter diving.
