The North Kitsap boys basketball team won its fifth straight game by defeating Sequim 82-60 Dec. 19. The Vikings came with pressure early as they provided a full-court press that left Sequim scrambling.
The Vikings took a 7-0 lead with Ethan Gillespie and Harry Davies nailing a few shots. The Wolves crept back in a few minutes later when Zack Thompson nailed the first five points for his team.
The two squads began to trade blows before the Vikings took a 22-14 lead after the first quarter. Gillespie started the quarter making three of his 11 points on the night. Soon after, North Kitsap began to break away from the Wolves.
In the final four minutes, North Kitsap went on a 19-10 run to take a 48-29 lead into halftime.
North Kitsap’s Davies and Cade Orness did the most damage in the third quarter. Davies ended with 24 points and six assists while Orness had 19 points and 11 assists. In addition, Mason Williams created havoc defensively, picking up eight rebounds and five steals.
The Vikings 22-9 run in the third quarter put the game out of reach 70-38. Although the starters stayed in the fourth quarter, the Vikings took their foot off the gas pedal. North Kitsap stepped away from the full-court press and Sequim capitalized, winning the final quarter 22-12.
