POULSBO — The North Kitsap Vikings protected their undefeated record Oct. 8 with a 3-1 win over the South Kitsap Wolves.
The Vikings, 8-0 overall, hosted the Wolves in a non-conference match and showed why they are the only undefeated team in the Olympic League.
The Vikings were trouble for the Wolves early on in the first set. The Wolves struggled to return the ball, giving the North Kitsap team an early lead. Though the Wolves began showing signs of improvement, and the Vikings made a few return errors, it was not enough to catch up. The Vikings won the set 25-14.
In the second the Wolves were able to overcome the Vikings, winning the set 26-28.
But the Wolves would not keep their momentum. The Vikings won the third set 25-14.
The match ended in the fourth, when the Vikings outscored the Wolves 25-20.
North Kitsap’s Sarah Holt led the team with 17 kills.
Mareena Clotfelter led in assists, with 24. Clotfelter had a perfect serve record of 12 out of 12.
Autumn Johnson, finishing with 11 assists, served a perfect 15 out of 15.
The Vikings are not finished battling Wolves. The team travels to Sequim to play the Sequim Wolves Oct. 10 at 6:15 p.m.
