SEQUIM — What was originally planned as a North Kitsap home game, the Vikings had to travel to Sequim High School to play ball March 26.

Continued rain forced the change in venue. But for the Vikings, the change didn’t matter much.

The Vikings won 5-1 over the Wolves.

North Kitsap’s Kole Milyard earned two RBIs and was the winning pitcher. He pitched six of seven for the Vikings, striking out six. He allowed four hits. The win keeps the Vikings (3-0, 4-1) tied for first in the Olympic League. The Olympic Trojans (3-0, 4-0) are the only undefeated team in the conference.

The Vikings scored a run against the Wolves in the first and second inning.

The Wolves’ only run came in the bottom of the second.

The Vikings scored again in the fourth, and twice in the seventh to round out the game.

The win over the Wolves followed a 13-6 win over Hazen, March 24.

The win over Hazen came in the bottom of the fourth, when the Vikings, tied with Hazen 1-1, scored 10 runs.

Hazen’s answer was two runs in the top of the fifth, and three in the seventh — not enough to catch up to the 3-0 (4-1) Vikings.

North Kitsap’s Nate Marcelino earned three  RBIs. Tyler Trainer earned two.

The Vikings committed three errors to Hazen’s seven; four of Hazen’s errors were in the fourth inning.

The Vikings game against the Kingston Buccaneers for March 28 is cancelled. The Vikings next play April 8 against Port Angeles at North Kitsap.

The Bucs have struggled early in the season. They have lost 10-0 to both the Trojans and Wolves. The Bucs beat the North Mason Bulldogs 7-6 March 21. They were unable to play Port Townsend, March 26, due to a rainout.

The Bucs play against the Bremerton Knights April 8 at Kingston High School.
