POULSBO — A 2-0 win over the Sequim Wolves April 8 kept the North Kitsap Vikings varsity team in first place in the Olympic League.

North Kitsap’s Nathan Foster and Daniel Norberg were the two players to score in the game held at North Kitsap Stadium.

The Vikings (7-0-0-1) lead the league with 21 points.

Both the Kingston Buccaneers and Olympic Trojans won as well, dropping the Wolves (5-0-2-1) to fourth place in the league. The Trojans (5-2-0-1) are second with 19 points. The Bucs (5-1-1-1) are in third with 18 points.

North Kitsap head coach Greg St. Peter wrote in an email that both the Vikings and Wolves were “a little sloppy,” playing their first game back from spring break. The game was physical, St. Peter wrote. But the Vikings “showed good patience to get a nice win, against a good opponent.”

It’s a narrow lead for the Vikings, who have two more games to play this week.

A single loss for the Vikings mean dropping at least one position in the standings.

Kingston head coach Craig Smith said it would be a “huge turn-around” for the Bucs to defeat the Vikings. The Bucs lost 6-1 to the Vikings when they played earlier in the season. The Vikings and Trojans are the only two teams to have defeated the Bucs.

The Bucs are more of a balanced team than Smith anticipated.

With Nick Boles scoring four goals and an assist, and Simon Campo earning three assists and a goal, the game against Port Townsend went smoothly.

“We really took it to them,” Smith said.

However, the Bucs next face Sequim April 10 at home. The 6:45 p.m. game will not be easy. The Bucs last won over Sequim during the first game of the season in a shootout.
