Vikings soccer defeated in first round of state

The North Kitsap Vikings were defeated in the first round of the state tournament last night against Archbishop Murphy High Wildcats.

The team lost 4-0 during their evening match.

“I learned last night that they have been in the final four since 2001,” said Viking head coach Dee Taylor referring to the Wildcats.

The game got off to a quick 1-0 Wildcats lead after a goal in the first minute.

The Wildcats have finished in the top three teams since 2001, winning state last year and in 2006.

Though Taylor said the Viking’s would not let the early goal upset them, they would not be able to match the Wildcats offensively.

“I was proud of them, nobody was hanging their head,” Taylor said.

In the second half, Elya Le was taken out of the game due to a leg injury and would not be put back in until the final minutes of the game.

During the second half – in attempt to score – Taylor said the teamed tried to attack more offensively after the Wildcat’s second goal. This would prove fatal as the Wildcats scored an uncontested goal followed by another.

The Vikings ended their season with an 11-5 overall record.
