LAKEWOOD — The North Kitsap Vikings won 3-2 over the Lakewood Cougars in the first round of the 2A State Tournament.
The Vikings took an early lead, winning the first set 25-20.During the second set, the Vikings and Cougars tied at 24-24. The Cougars took the set 26-24.
Tied, the Vikings led the Cougars 23-17 in the third set. The Cougars caught up to within three points. With a score of 23-20, the Vikings finished the set, scoring two more to finish 25-20.
In the fourth set, the two teams were neck-and-neck, until the Cougars took a 24-20 lead at the end. The Cougars finished the set 25-20.
During the tiebreaker, the Cougars took an early 2-0 lead. However, the Vikings tied and then took a commanding 10-4 lead. The Vikings allowed the Cougars three more points before finishing the match 15-7.
The win over the Lakewood Cougars boosts the Vikings’ record to 21-0 for the season. They advance to the quarterfinals at 6:45 p.m., Nov. 14 at Pierce College. The Vikings play Woodland, which won 3-2 over East Valley.
