POULSBO — Andrew Hecker was a kick away from sealing the win over the Olympic Trojans and securing the Olympic League title for the North Kitsap Vikings on Oct. 31.

With less than one minute to play, Hecker positioned himself on the 40-yard line and prepared for 47-yard field goal. He nailed it.

The Vikings (6-0, 9-0) defeated the Trojans 13-10 in the regular season finale. The Vikings won the title outright, knocking the Trojans (5-1, 6-3) down to second.

The win gives the Vikings the No. 1 seed into Districts. They play either Renton or Sammamish Nov. 7, or Nov. 8, for a State berth. Renton and Sammamish kick off the District Playoffs Nov. 4 at Renton Memorial Stadium. It’s a loser-out game.

The winners of the playoff games after Nov. 4 head to the first round of the State Tournament. The tournament begins Nov. 14-15.

Joining the Vikings in the playoffs are the Trojans and North Mason Bulldogs. A fourth team from the Olympic League will be added to the mix, after a three-way tie breaker Nov. 4 at Silverdale Stadium, where the Kingston Buccaneers, Port Angeles Roughriders and Sequim Wolves fight for the last playoff berth.
