The Village Greens Golf Course, 2298 Fircrest Dr. SE in Port Orchard, will open for the season Monday, March 10.
The public is welcome to golf for free on Monday. The course will be open from 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Guests can participate in contests and earn prizes for putting, chipping, and being closest to the pin. In addition to the contests, Bruce Weir, the new golf professional at the course will offer free instructional clinics at intervals throughout the day.
Weir, who is also the new contracted merchandiser at the course, has more than 35 years experience as a PGA golf professional, He has been an assistant golf professional at Lake Padden Golf Course in Bellingham, Monroe Golf Course and Everett Golf Course, as well as the head golf professional at Cascade Golf Course in North Bend.
Open day activities are:
• Putting contest, chipping contest and closest to the pin competition on hole 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Golf clinics with PGA pro Bruce Weir: 9-10 a.m. – Full swing at the driving range; 10:30-11:30 a.m. – short game at the chipping and putting greens; 12:30-1:30 p.m. – myths of the golf swing in the lounge; and
2-3 p.m. – open forum to ask the pro in the lounge
March hours at the course are 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays. The course is closed on Tuesdays for maintenance.
The course, owned and operated by Kitsap County Parks Department, is an 18-hole executive golf course with a covered driving range, putting green, chipping green and offers rentable clubs and pull carts.
