WestSound FC, the region’s only premier RCL youth soccer club, will host a fundraising youth soccer jamboree benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Washington chapter on Dec. 2 at Silverdale Stadium, on the grounds of Olympic High School.

SILVERDALE — WestSound FC, the region’s only Washington Youth Soccer Regional Club League program, will host a fundraising youth soccer jamboree benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Washington chapter on Dec. 2 at Silverdale Stadium, on the grounds of Olympic High School.

The Jamboree kicks off at 9 a.m. and concludes at approximately 4 p.m. and features brackets for players U-8 through U-10 (boys and girls).

To register, visit the WestSound FC website. Fee per team is $95 and roster size is limited to eight players. The jamboree is open to all players and skill levels.

Registration deadline is Nov. 29 at 6 p.m.

One of the team’s players, Lily Grace Paulson, has cystic fibrosis, an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

“In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF,” according to the foundation website. “Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.”

In eight years, Team Lily Grace has raised more than $288,000 in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Great Strides Walk. “When I grow up, I want to be a professional soccer player. Now, thanks to people like all of you, I will get that chance,” she said in an announcement of the jamboree.
