South Kitsap High School fell one win short of the sixth state tournament berth in Eric Bergeson’s 11-year tenure as coach, but the Wolves still placed second in the Narrows League and finished with a 12-3-2 overall record.
Two captains, forward Justin Moore and defender Bryan Heath, earned first-team recognition on the all-Kitsap team based on their accomplishments.
The all-county team, made up of eligible players from schools in Kitsap County, was voted on by the sports editors and writers of the Kitsap Newspaper Group, including the Port Orchard Independent, Bainbridge Review, Bremerton Patriot, Central Kitsap Reporter and North Kitsap Herald.

Boys Soccer Team
• F — Cody Clark, senior, Olympic: A true goal scorer, Clark notched 11 goals and dished out three assists for 25 total points.
• F — Francisco Garcia, senior, Bremerton: Garcia led the Olympic League in scoring and overall points (40). He had 17 goals and six assists.
• F — Justin Moore, junior, South Kitsap: Moore became the first junior captain in Eric Bergeson’s 11-year tenure as coach at South and was the Wolves’ leading scorer. He scored 12 goals and added four assists this season. “He may have been the best captain we’ve had,” Bergeson said. “He’s a workhorse.”
• F — John Troka, senior, Kingston: Troka was the Bucs’ go-to man in difficult situations.
• MF — Sam Mouser, senior, North Kitsap: Mouser led the Vikings in game-winning goals. His seven goals also were the second most on the team.
• MF — Darryn Reinertson, senior, Klahowya: While Reinertson led the Eagles with five goals and an assist, he accounted for about half of the team’s total goals (11).
• MF — Kane Williams, senior, Central Kitsap: Williams displayed his versatility by regularly shifting between forward and the midfield and even dropped back to defense at times in the postseason.
• D — Johnny Baggett, senior, Bainbridge: It’s not often that a defender earns MVP honors in his league, but Baggett accomplished that through his ability to clear out balls against some of Seattle’s top talent.
• D — Bryan Heath, senior, South Kitsap: Bergeson likes to build his team around its defenders and the Wolves were strong again back there with Heath and Jesse Askew. “Bryan Heath is the most impressive player mentally and physically that I’ve coached,” Bergeson said.
• D — Pat Triggs, junior, Central Kitsap: Triggs was a big reason CK nearly advanced back to the district tournament, as the junior could mark just about any opposing offensive threat.
• GK — Devin Langaker, senior, Kingston: During the Bucs’ run for a state title and all throughout the season, Langaker helped Kingston tally 10 shutout games.
• Coach of the Year — George Vukic, Bainbridge: He lost his best player to Crossfire Academy, the premier select soccer program in the state two games into the season.
Honorable mention
• Ashy Carlson, North Kitsap, junior, F — Carlson led his team with nine goals and is the region’s 11th best scorer, adding one assist for 19 points.
• Josh “J.J.” Gilson, Kingston, senior, F — Gilson was the third-highest scorer on the West Sound with nine goals and nine assists for 27 points.
• Brian Paulsen, King’s West, senior, F — The Warriors’ leading goal scorer helped carry KW to a 10-5-1 record and within a win of state.
• Max Aussendorf, Bainbridge, senior, MF — Aussendorf scored four times and assisted on another as he helped Bainbridge to a division title.
• Derek Conway-Newton, Olympic, senior, MF — Conway-Newton was one of the top physical presences in the Olympic League.
• Ritchie Danskin, Bremerton, senior, MF — A team captain, Danskin logged a lot of minutes in the middle-third of the field.
• Nico de la Cruz, South Kitsap, sophomore, MF — On a senior-laden squad, de la Cruz was one of the few significant contributors as an underclassman. He scored one goal and added five assists this season. “Nico stands out with a really high soccer IQ,” Bergeson said. “Nobody has better feet in our program.”
• Tim Flugstad, King’s West, senior, MF — Flugstad could control the middle of the field or drop back on defense to squelch a threat.
• Chris Hall, Kingston, senior, MF — The team captain stepped up in postseason play, scoring the winning goal in the district championship.
• Tucker Moran, Klahowya, senior, MF — A co-captain alongside Reinertson, Moran also was a key player in helping the Eagles stay in the close games by switching to defense.
• Dana Olson, Bainbridge, senior, MF — Olson was another threat to score or make the pass to find a teammate for the score.
• Matt Olson, Bremerton, sophomore, MF — He finished second on the team to Garcia in goals, assists and total points.
• Jake Pedersen, North Kitsap, senior, MF — Pedersen led the Vikings with 12 assists.
• Jesse Askew, South Kitsap, junior, D — Askew was one of the primary reasons the Wolves never allowed more than two goals in a match this season. He earned praise from Bergeson for his toughness.
• Colin Barry, Central Kitsap, senior, D — Barry was another key players in a defense that held opponents to just more than a goal a game.
• John McLaughlin, Klahowya, junior, D — In addition to being a tough defender, McLaughlin was a vocal leader for the Eagles.
• Thomas Bryan, Olympic, sophomore, GK — Bryan was the main reason Olympic repeated as the top 3A team in the Olympic League, coach Steve Haggerty said.
• Daniel Lathrop, South Kitsap, junior, GK — Recorded seven shutouts this season, but that number could’ve been higher.
Instead, Lathrop vacated the position at times to allow senior Greg Dobb an opportunity to play. “He’s cat-like quick,” Bergeson said. “He’s a good student, responsible young and is selfless.”
• Nate May, North Kitsap, junior, GK — May had a 3-to-1 save ratio.
• Grant Rico, Central Kitsap, junior, GK — Rico was stalwart between the posts for the Cougars, logging every minute in the goal this season.
